The Law Firm, later Portugal Gouvêa Law Firm, started in 1933.
The founder Sebastião Portugal Gouvêa graduated in 1931 from the Law School of Largo de São Francisco, retired by virtue of the Revolution of 32. After working while student and newly graduated in the office of Alfredo Egydio Souza Aranha, he founded his own office in December of 1933, together with Francisco Estella.
A few years later, José Labre de França, Paulo Leme da Fonseca, Jair Martins Ferreira, Oswaldo Müller da Silva, Americo Portugal Gouvêa, Jairo Navarro de Magalhães and many other distinguished lawyers arrived, until they were 62 working together in the 1970s. Sebastião Portugal Gouvêa headed the office until 1996, when he completed 65 years of uninterrupted and passionate exercise of the profession.
During the last decades, many distinguished lawyers have passed through this board and many cases have been litigated. The office has always been practicing focused on civil law and business law. It has been serving hundreds of Brazilian and foreign clients. Many, for decades.
Nowadays, the office provides a personalized economic legal advisory with a different and exclusive feature, by means of highly qualified professionals in the areas of law and economics, always with a technical and ethical value added to our experience over the years.
